In a world where sentinels and guides are recognized and celebrated,
one sentinel's painful past leads him to avoid a bond at all costs,
even as his emerging senses demand one, while one guide struggles to
hide the dark secrets that caused him to be branded an outcast.
Author's notes:
I wrote the original outline for this story a number of years ago, but
before
I could write it, other stories were posted with a similar theme. I
abandoned the idea, but it wouldn't leave me alone. I really wanted to
tell this story, so I decided to write it anyhow and take my chances that
there'd be an audience for it. I've avoided reading the other stories so
that I wouldn't unconsciously emulate anything. If any similarities
remain,
please know that they are coincidental.
